The Texas Youth Leadership Summit, hosted by The Leadership Institute, Kimble County Republican Party and the Republican Party of Texas, invited college students and junior and senior high school students to apply to attend the July summit at Texas Tech University, to learn about history, leadership, politics and business, to further the students’ success in their future endeavors as leaders. This highly competitive application invitation offered spots for only 96 participants in the entire state of Texas, and Wilson County was proud to have two young ladies accepted into this program.
The Wilson County Republican Party offered scholarships to those accepted into the program, to help offset the summit fee. Ms. Hailey Mason and Ms. Jennafer Aguilar, both of Floresville, were awarded these scholarships at a recent party meeting.
Floresville High School senior Hailey Mason is very active in her high school and the community. She has achieved notable academic successes graduating this year with honors and in the top ten percent of her class. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, FHS Student Council and served on the FISD Strategic Planning Committee, as well as being active in sports and serving in her church. She will attend Texas A&M University-San Antonio in the fall as an Achiever’s Promise and Top 10% scholarships awardee. She will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management.
Great Hearts Monte Vista North senior Jennafer Aguilar is a top performer at her high school and has served on San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor’s Fitness Council, is a UTSA Architecture and Interior Design Camp scholarship awardee, elections volunteer and a judicial candidate re-election campaign volunteer, as well as a youth volunteer at the San Antonio Zoo. Her interests are S.T.E.M.-related educational camps, choir and drama performance, and has been a representative of school choice and healthy lifestyles advocacy. Jennafer plans to work at her family’s business in San Antonio after graduation and is considering pursuing business and finance in college in the spring.
The Wilson County Republican Party was happy to provide these scholarships to continue to encourage civic involvement in youth and young adults, and to strengthen the education and growth of principled, conservative leadership in our communities.
